Can you sing with all the colors of the wind?
Cameron has started to figure out colors.

Examples:

  1. Two days ago he floored me when he pointed at his placemat and said, "Green mat." ("Bee mã," where 'ã' is sort of a nasalized 'ng' sound. If he were speaking French, it would be spelled "bimin"). At first, not sure if the first word was supposed to be "green" or not, I just said, "That's right; it's a green mat." But then he pointed at mine and said, "Blue mat." ("Boo mã.") Wow!
  2. Playing with crayons today -- I still have to watch him carefully so he doesn't eat them, sit on them, throw them, color the bedsheets with them, etc., though he is getting much better about not throwing a tantrum when it's time to put them away -- he picked up the following colors and named them: green, blue, purple ("pu-pu"), yellow ("dah-do"), light green (! "Igh bee." Yes, he did this several times without prompting. In fact, once I picked up that crayon and said, "Green," and he corrected me: "Igh bee."). He was slightly flummoxed by the teal-colored crayon. He didn't know what to call it, and kept showing it to me, as if to say, "Is this green, or blue, or what?"

He's still not too good with red yet, either saying it or identifying it when I ask. Perhaps that's because none of the placemats or bath toys are red, and the only red crayon he has doesn't look red (the label is kind of a sickly pale pink, and the crayon itself looks almost purplish. But it says, "red," and when you color with it it's fine. Crazy Crayola people). Maybe I'll sit down with him next time he plays with his blocks. Or not.
