Here we go again (TMI)
Yesterday Cameron didn't eat a whole lot, and I thought, hmmm! Sure enough, this morning I noticed that he had thrown up in his crib overnight -- not very much; it obviously didn't upset him enough to call for me -- it was already dry. Well, I took him to Debbie's as planned since he seemed to be feeling fine. Apparently he seemed okay all day but was very thirsty for water and hardly ate much at all.
On the way home (T. drove) I called the doc. Said he'd fallen down the stairs on Sunday, had seemed fine for 24 hours, then had lost energy and appetite and had thrown up once, and it very well could just be a random virus but I would feel better if he could be looked at. We're due to see the NP tomorrow morning.
Tonight he would eat nothing but cheese. Not cheesy bread, not avocado, not tomato or beans or milk or any of his other favorites. Just cheese. After pushing everything else away and dinner was over, he wanted to nurse. He drank his fill, then suddenly climbed off my lap. He coughed, and then, BLEARGHH! it all came up. I grabbed him. BLEARGHH! I started running with him to the bathroom. BLEARGHH!
Good thing I made that appointment.
I got all of our clothes off (mine were hit pretty solid) and he immediately grinned at me, apparently feeling quite fine. Yeccch!
I bathed us while T. cleaned up the living room. A couple of his books are a total loss, including Hop on Pop which used to be mine. Fortunately, however, we do not have carpet, and he managed to miss the couch.
After all that it was pretty late, and I didn't dare nurse him again. I worried about how he would go to sleep without nursing. I knew he wouldn't like it.
I explained the situation to him as best I could, waited till he was good and tired, and then put him in the crib with the hall light on and read books. Goodnight Moon twice, How Do Dinosaurs Count to Ten? twice, Animal Babies in Deserts twice, interspersed with my gentle reminders (when he would complain) that we couldn't nurse tonight because it would upset his tummy. He stood wearily in his crib, looking at the books. Eventually I asked if he'd like to lie down and go to sleep. And he did! Wow!
So I guess it is possible for him to go to sleep when I'm in the room, without nursing. We'll see how he does the rest of the night. I hope he agrees to continue drinking water.
